Kind Words

“Where do I even start? Truly, there are no words. I simply cannot (and really have no desire to) imagine our daughter’s birth without Jamie there. We opted for an unmedicated birth at a birth center and she was so helpful in getting me through each stage, from rubbing my shoulders, to spraying water on my back in the tub, to holding my hand and looking into my eyes speaking encouraging words. She was so prepared with things I didn’t know I would want and somehow knew what I needed before I knew I needed it. Like a mint when I had a weird taste in my mouth after feeling nauseous and a small handheld fan because I was so sweaty! She was there to calm me down when I needed comfort and encourage me when I needed strength. And that’s just the birth!

As a first time parent, I wanted to be really prepared for all that was to transpire and read all the books and listened to all the podcasts I could get my hands on. But honestly, it was Jamie’s pre and postnatal visits, and all the wisdom and resources she bestowed on us at those, that were the most helpful in preparing both my husband and I for the birth and care of our newborn. She practiced birthing positions and pain relief techniques with me and my husband. She demonstrated everything from how to swaddle/ diaper a baby, to how to put on our baby wrap, to how use the breast pump. She helped clean our house, helped me feel confident breastfeeding, and helped us get in to a rhythm with our new baby and her sleep schedule. She helped me process the birth and all the emotional baggage such a big transition inevitably carries with it. She even helped my husband prepare some simple recipes and snacks for me to eat postpartum! It’s pretty obvious that we would have been totally lost without her.

I am so grateful that we had the good sense to hire her as our doula and will forever cherish the time we had with her. If you’re on the fence as to whether or not to hire Jamie, seriously, do it. She really is one of a kind and I promise you will only regret it if you don’t!”

I truly couldn’t be any more grateful for Jamie. As a first-time mom experiencing labor I had a lot of questions, fears, and doubts about bringing my son into the world. But Jamie helped me overcome all of the doubts from our first meeting. She was personable throughout the whole experience. I remember as my baby was coming out, I turned to look at my husband and then at her and she had so much compassion and sincerity that she was even emotional as my son was born. I couldn’t have pictured my labor without Jamie. Anyone would be lucky to have her by their side for their birth. She is invested, talented, and cares about your whole experience from beginning to end.” (Kim)

“From a husband/partner perspective Jamie was the greatest thing to happen in our birth experience. Since this was our first baby I had no idea what labor and birth was going to be like for my wife and I. Jamie was a huge asset because she brought so much knowledge of how to help my wife get into different labor positions, helped her relieve pain through counter pressures, and even brought snacks and ice packs for my wife. She worked amazingly with the nurses and medical staff at the hospital and there was never any tension. We truly had a TEAM for our birth. Jamie allowed me to be one on one with my wife the whole time. She was awesome and we look forward to having her at our side for our future children’s births. If you’re a husband and hesitating about getting a doula, DO IT! It will make your experience with your wife sooooo much better.” (Taylor)

“Having Jamie’s knowledge and using her as a source of information put my heart at ease. I asked her questions and she gave me the facts in a very neutral way. I was able to make educated decisions because of her factual knowledge and resources. She helped me with my birth plan and because of that I felt prepared for any type of birth journey that could happen. I really don’t know how I would have made it to the finish line without her. Everyone needs a Jamie! She is professional, caring and simply has a gift for supporting through the journey. I never once felt judged for my choices and always felt validated.”

“When I became pregnant for a third time, I knew that I wanted the support of a doula to try and help me achieve my goal of an unmedicated VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I interviewed a couple of people, but when I met Jamie- I KNEW that it felt right! I could immediately sense that she would be the calm, supportive presence during my birth that I was looking for which was especially important to me after the chaos of two previous births with many unexpected twists and turns.

Despite having two previous children, one of the things I really loved during my pregnancy was having my prenatal appointments with Jamie and the way we were able to plan for many different scenarios ahead of time rather than having to make decisions in the heat of the moment during my labor. Jamie was so well informed and was able to present us with unbiased information during all of our meetings.

At 36 weeks, my pregnancy took a turn and I found out my daughter was breech. I was panicking and Jamie was one of the first people I texted. She immediately offered to come over that very evening and help do some Spinning Babies and give me a massage to help me relax. I didn’t realize how much I needed her positive, confident presence during this time and it made a huge difference during a time where I was freaking out contemplating all of the worst case scenarios.

At 37 weeks, I went on to have a successful ECV where we flipped my daughter to be head down and then went on to go into labor just past 39 weeks as I had hoped. My labor was quicker than I expected and within about an hour of getting to the hospital, I was dilated to ten and completely shocked with both how quickly things were progressing and the intensity of the labor. My nurse was not very supportive of unmedicated deliveries, and Jamie was able to navigate this so well where I felt like I didn’t even know I had a nurse in the room and was able to focus on the encouragement and support I was getting from both her and my husband.

When my daughter was born and I finally achieved my ultimate goal of an unmedicated VBAC- it was one of the greatest moments of my life and it would not have been the same without Jamie there! EVERYONE deserves to have her at their birth!!”

“Jamie is absolutely amazing and I am so grateful I found her for my last birth. From our first meeting I was very impressed with her knowledge and appreciated her calm energy and presence. She was so supportive and unbiased of my decisions throughout the whole pregnancy and did everything in her power to help me have the birth experience I was hoping for. When the baby was breech she had lots of techniques to get her into the right position and gave me the best back massages to relieve the excruciating back pain I had towards the end of my pregnancy. Her hands are magic! She was an amazing support during labor and somehow knew what I needed before I needed it. There is no way I could have endured an unmedicated birth without her. Having delivered three other babies, this was hands down my best experience. I finally feel like I got the support and care I was missing during my other deliveries.  Jamie is worth her weight in gold and I cannot recommend her enough!”

“Words cannot describe how invaluable Jamie is. The meetings we had before my labor made me feel prepared and empowered (even excited!) for my labor experience. She was there for my entire labor and delivery and truly made the experience such a positive and powerful one. With her knowledge and experience I felt completely cared for and supported. Her true gift is her intuition – she could tell what I needed before I did. She was by my side every step of the way. She was my guide. I am so grateful to her and I cannot recommend her enough!”

Rachel: “How do I even put into words the value of Jamie?! From the moment we met her, my husband and I immediately felt her calming and supportive energy and hired her on the spot! The time she spent with us before labor and delivery helped us both feel prepared and excited for labor, delivery, and to meet our boy. Personally for me, I always appreciated that Jamie met me where I was at emotionally throughout pregnancy. I always knew I won in the doula department, but once I went into labor…Jamie’s natural talent, skill set, and knowledge really came into play. I had a lot of fear and anxiety around labor and delivery as a first time mom, and none of those feelings even had the chance to set in. Jamie’s presence kept me grounded and confident. And I want to be clear – her role during labor/delivery in no way overtook my husband’s role. In fact, her presence allowed him to be more engaged with me and the gentle recommendations she had for him to increase my comfort and meet my needs made all the difference. Reflecting back now, I was able to envision and experience the most beautiful journey to get my son earthside. This was a vision that Jamie believed in from the first time we met and talked about my birth plan. Now, when I look at my son’s sweet little face every day, I am filled with gratitude for the invaluable role that Jamie played in getting him safely in my arms.”

Neil: “If I could give every expecting husband and/or birthing partner a piece of advice it would be this…hire Jamie to be your Doula. Best money ever spent. As a birthing partner and a husband never having gone through a birth or even spent much time around babies, I knew I needed more help before, during, and after the delivery to make sure my partner and I had the necessary support. After meeting with Jamie for the first time I immediately felt less anxious knowing she would be there throughout the process. She has a sense of calmness about her that brought out more confidence in myself and allowed me to be more present in my baby’s birth. Without Jamie the birth would definitely not have gone as smoothly as it did.”
